First female frame runner completes London Marathon
A woman has made history by becoming the first female frame runner to complete the London Marathon.
Dr Julie McElroy from Glasgow completed the race in five hours and 59 minutes.
Julie said it was the result of five months of hard work. “I’ve made history”, she said.
The 37-year-old, who has cerebral palsy, suffered a traumatic injury six years ago.
The injury stopped her from cycling and swimming and even made walking painful. Julie was fearful that she would never be able to enjoy the outdoors again.
But Julie adapted and took up frame running. She uses a three-wheeled frame similar to a tricycle but with no pedals. The frame is equipped with a body support and a saddle.
Julie has taken on challenges such as the 22.6 mile Glasgow Kiltwalk and the Paisley 10k. She finished the latter in under an hour.
