West Indies got off to a brilliant start on Day 2 chasing England’s first innings total of 416 with their opening pair of rookie Mikyle Louis and skipper Kraigg Brathwaite putting together a half-century opening stand. The duo uncharacteristically opted for dynamism with no swing on offer and a gorgeous deck to bat on which eventually prompted Ben Stokes to call upon his X-factor. On the cusp of the opening hour, Mark Wood was handed the red cherry, and as is often the case, the express quick appeared to be on wheels during a breathtaking opening spell.
Wood was immediately a yard quicker than his fellow pacers, his first delivery straightaway clocking 151ks. Things only ramped up thereon as next up was a 155kmps missile that swung away late past Louis’ bat who barely seemed to have a clue about the Duke’s whereabouts. The youngster sensibly decided to shoulder arms for the next two balls that read 148 and 153ks respectively on the speedometer, forcing Wood to aim for a fierce yorker while pushing his pace past 155 clicks once again. The veteran capped off his over with another 153ks bazooka, making it the fastest ever by an England bowler on home soil since ball-by-ball records began. It was just the beginning though, as Wood went even quicker in his ensuing effort that had both batters scrambling. Yet, the fastest ball of the spell came on the penultimate delivery of his third over, a fierce bouncer that swished past Louis’ face at an astounding 156ks (97.1 mph).
All the pressure Wood built up with his pace eventually paid dividends as Shoaib Bashir on the other managed two capitalize with two scalps in quick succession, even as Twitterati continued to sing praises of the thrill that Wood generates with his pace.
Fastest!
Never zero

Mikyle Louis did what Rahul Dravid used to do with Shoaib Akhtar.
Akhtar used to run fast and bowl with full energy and in response Dravid used to leave the ball. This is the ultimate disrespect to any fast bowler.
