Donna Kelce Shares Bold Opinion on Taylor Swift’s ‘TTPD’
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Travis Kelce’s mom Donna Kelce recently expressed her admiration for her son’s girlfriend. Taylor Swift’s, latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, at QVC’s inaugural Age of Possibility summit in Las Vegas.
During an interview with PEOPLE, Donna shared her enthusiasm, noting, “I listened to the whole album, and I listened to it all morning long when it was released. I was just very impressed. She is a very talented woman, and I think it is probably her best work.” The album features several tracks that seem to allude to Swift’s relationship with Travis.
Donna, 71, who has seemingly grown close to Swift, 34, through the 2023-24 NFL season, supporting Travis and the Kansas City Chiefs, also commented on the pop star’s insight and maturity. “She doesn’t need my advice on anything. In fact, I hope she will give me advice,” she remarked when asked if she had any wisdom to impart to Swift about aging.

The summit, which also featured celebrities like Martha Stewart, Queen Latifah, and Naomi Watts, focused on female empowerment and the importance of assertiveness in professional advancement. Donna highlighted the significance of vocalizing one’s ambitions: “A lot of women think if they just work hard and do everything, they will get promoted. They don’t realize they have to ask for what they want. You have to say I want that job.”
Swift’s new album includes tracks like “The Alchemy” and “So High School,” among others, which prominently feature alleged references to her romance with Travis, 34. Lyrics from “The Alchemy” include football-themed metaphors like, “So when I touch down, call the amateurs and cut ’em from the team / Ditch the clowns, get the crown,” which fans speculate relate to the NFL tight end’s athletic career.
Donna also subtly showed her support by “liking” Swift’s Instagram post that announced a surprising twist to her release on April 19. Swift revealed, “It’s a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. ✌️,” just hours after the initial album drop. She elaborated, “I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours.”
