Dog Caught Red-Handed on Camera While Owner’s at Work Wins Pet of the Week
From a cat expertly testing his owner’s patience to a “foster fail” Dalmatian and new kitten friend, we have seen lots of great pet stories this week.
As well as viral pet videos, we love sharing stories about our readers’ pets. If you want your animal to be in next week’s Pet of the Week lineup, be sure to share your funny and adorable pet pictures and videos with us.
Winner
This week’s Pet of the Week is adventurous corgi Chérie, who spends her time going on trips with owner Heather Ulrich.
Journeying together for work across the country, the pair often stay in hotel rooms. After a few trips, Ulrich’s curiosity got the better of her, and she decided to set up her iPad as a hidden camera.
“I wanted to see what’s she is up to in the hotel rooms or Airbnbs while I’m at work, so I used an app that runs the camera on my iPad and I can view from my phone when I am away,” Ulrich told Newsweek.
What she discovered was both hilarious and heartwarming. While her owner was out, Chérie was getting up to all sorts of antics, like relocating the bathroom toilet paper so fast that she became a blur; running around while her owner was out; and pawing at the camera.
As the pair continue to hit the open road together, Ulrich loves to see what Chérie is getting up to in the rare moments they are apart.
Finalists
Our first finalist this week is Pebbles, a feline who engaged in an unusual meeting with a wild roadrunner.
Cheryl Wilson’s cat enjoys the simple pleasures of life—short walks and watching birds. But, one day, an unusual encounter took her outdoor adventures to another level.
While Pebbles lounged on the outdoor window sill, a local roadrunner suddenly hopped up beside her. Wilson, captivated by the unusual scene, quickly snapped a photo. “It seemed odd that these two looked like they wanted to be friends,” Wilson told Newsweek.
Next up this week is golden retriever Cassie, who may be 7 years old, but has the energy and spirit of a playful pup.
“She acts 2!” owner Bill McLaughlin told Newsweek, highlighting her boundless enthusiasm for life.
Cassie enjoys the finer things, too—like having her very own couch, where she loves to stretch out and take cozy naps. It is her favorite spot to unwind after a day of fun.
Last but not least this week is Anne the donkey and her newborn foal.
“The love she has for her new baby is so special,” owner Michele Caouette told Newsweek, noting how Anne’s affection mirrors that of a human mother’s.
From gentle nuzzles to protective care, Anne’s maternal instincts shine through in every interaction, particularly a sweet picture shared by their owner.
