Dave Portnoy Shares Unfiltered Thoughts on Zach Bryan
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
The unapologetic and often controversial founder of Barstool Sports, Dave Portnoy, has just unleashed his fury on country music star Zach Bryan.
In the wake of Bryan’s recent breakup with Brianna “Chickenfry” LaPaglia – a beloved Barstool employee and close friend of Portnoy – the CEO was not holding back his real opinion of the singer.
When asked on The Unnamed Show podcast if he had officially turned against Bryan, 28, Portnoy affirmed, “Mm-hmm. Yes. I was never a liker.” The 47-year-old went on to express his strong feelings on the episode, which aired on Thursday, October 24, stating, “I think he’s a fraud. Every time I met him, I was not comfortable with him. He doesn’t put you at ease. There are certain guys where you’re like, ‘Okay, I kinda like this guy; he gives a good vibe.’ He never gave that vibe to me.”
Portnoy shared anecdotes about his past encounters with Bryan, revealing how the “Pink Skies” singer’s demeanor made him uncomfortable. He recounted a specific incident that actually led to Bryan unfollowing Chickenfry and blocking her BFFs podcast on social media. He didn’t mince words, labeling Bryan as “an insecure baby.” Portnoy later added that Bryan seemed “really immature” and “not confident.”
In a video posted of the episode on Reddit, fans of Portnoy and Chickenfry were quick to comment on the thread. “This is SO REFRESHING and validating to hear because we all knew this,” said one user. Another noted, “Dave loves Bri and hates to see her embarrassed like that. If she gives him the green light to talk about Zach then he’s going to give us ALL the dirt.”
The breakup between Bryan and the 25-year-old occurred earlier this week, with Chickenfry reportedly feeling “blindsided” by Bryan’s split announcement, which he publicly posted on his Instagram Stories on Tuesday, October 22. Shortly after the news broke, Portnoy took to X (formerly Twitter) to dedicate Taylor Swift’s song “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” to his friend, a clear jab at Bryan.
