Daren Sammy blasts Alzarri Joseph for storming off the ground during series decider
The incident occurred in the fourth over of the match and luckily for the West Indies, didn’t affect the outcome of the match.
West Indies head coach Daren Sammy isn’t pleased with Alzarri Joseph’s behaviour during the 3rd ODI against England in Barbados. After choosing to bowl first in the series decider, Windies captain Shai Hope handed the new ball to Matthew Forde and Alzarri. They got an early wicket as well, but Alzarri seemed dissatisfied with his skipper, who refused to give him the field that he wanted.
Alzarri Joseph gets angry at Shai Hope
With an angry face, he even argued with Hope, who was behind the stumps, but the captain didn’t budge. In the very same over, Alzarri bowled an absolute snorter to get Jordan Cox out but didn’t celebrate, and after the end of the over, he stormed off the ground. This left the West Indies with just 10 players on the field. Although this didn’t affect them and they went on to win, it rubbed many, including Sammy, the wrong way.
We’ll definitely have a chat: Daren Sammy
After the match, Sammy expressed his unhappiness with the conduct from his player. “Behaviour like that is unacceptable on my cricket field. We will be friends…but in the culture I’m trying to build, that’s unacceptable. We will definitely have a chat about that.” he told TalkSport.
“I pride myself on having the difficult conversations. But in a way that everybody understands what is needed to be done. To see guys going out there and slowly progressing in the right direction makes me proud. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but it’s one that I’m quite passionate about.”
