Couple Worry About 87-Year-Old Grandma at Wedding, Then This Happens
An 87-year-old grandma left the internet in stitches for being the life and soul of her granddaughter’s wedding.
Emma Hutton (@emjayrome) was worried that her grandma, Monique Kerr, would struggle keeping up at her wedding in Cabo, Mexico, due to the long flight from Ottawa, the heat and the outdoors jungle terrain of the venue.
“Us having our wedding in Cabo not sure if my 87 year old nana would be ok,” read the overlaid text on a clip of Emma, 29, having her first dance with her husband, in a TikTok video that has garnered 793,900 likes and 4.7 million views.
A second clip in the video then showed grandma Monique sharing a drink with said husband Ben Hutton, a 31-year-old professional hockey player for the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights. “Her pounding tequila all night and being MVP,” wrote her granddaughter in the overlaid text.
“She stayed the entire night and was truly the MVP. Our guests kept telling us they want to take her home to be their own nana!” Emma Hutton told Newsweek. “She was so funny, she just got a new iPhone and she was video taping with the flash on the whole evening of everyone. It was truly hilarious.”
The newlyweds, who are from Ottawa, Canada, but live in Las Vegas during hockey season, tied the knot on June 25 at the Acre Resort, San José del Cabo, Mexico, in a spectacular ceremony.
“My relationship with my nana is so strong and special. My mom was a single mom to me and my brother so Nana helped raise us young so my mom could go back to work and make money to support us.
“Nana is very tough and old school but also a sweetie and loves us so much. I go to her for advice and to hear stories still to this day. She’s hilarious and always leaves a mark on people,” Hutton told Newsweek.
The fun-loving nana even drank beer out of the Stanley Cup when Ben Hutton’s team won the NHL championship in 2023.
According to Magpie Wedding, a wedding blog, there are several ways to make sure your grandparents feel included in your special day.
You can honor your elderly loved ones by wearing a sentimental item of theirs, having a special reading that is sentimental to your relationship, including them in the wedding party and by ensuring they have a reserved seat at the ceremony.
Hutton was sure to include her nana Monique Kerr in every part of the festivities and TikTok users were left hysterical by the 87-year-old’s partying antics.
“Never underestimate Nana she’ll out drink everyone,” one user said. “Nana is gonna drink everyone under the table and then be up for breakfast waiting on everyone else,” said another.
“I went to a New Year’s party years ago at my ex brother in law’s. His 90 yr old grandpa was playing beer pong with us and drinking us under the table,” Angela said.
“NANA out partied everyone,” said Jessica.
