With his assist for Mykhailo Mudryk to score Chelsea’s opening goal in the 2-3 victory over Nottingham Forest, Cole Palmer sensationally became only the tenth player to score 20+ goals and serve 10+ assists in a single Premier League season.
Cole Palmer has enjoyed a significant start to life at Chelsea following his summer transfer from Manchester City and is perhaps one of the few bright spots in an otherwise unimpressive season for the Blues.
For his latest record achieved at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest, Cole Palmer showed his class with a well-weighted through ball to Mykhailo Mudryk. The Ukraine international showed no signs of the inconsistency he has displayed this term, cutting into the box and finishing with plenty of composure after just eight minutes.
That was Palmer’s 10th assist of the season, bringing him onto the exclusive list of Premier League stars who have scored more than twenty goals and hit double figures with assists.
Interestingly, Premier League greats like Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Sergio Aguero, and even Erling Haaland have never achieved this feat before.
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – The Egyptian star is the only other current Premier League player on that list. Also, Salah is one of two players to have achieved these figures more than once.
In the 2017/2018 season, Mo Salah scored 32 goals and assisted 10 others for the Reds. In 2021/2022, he scored 23 times and assisted 13 others.
Harry Kane – Former Tottenham Hotspur man, Harry Kane scored 23 goals and provided 14 assists in the 2020/2021 season.
Alexis Sanchez – In one of his glorious seasons for Arsenal (2016/2017), Sanchez scored 24 goals and assisted 10 others for the Gunners.
Luis Suarez – Uruguayan forward is another player on this list with his 43 goal contribution in the 2013/2014 Premier League season. Suarez scored 31 goals and assisted 12.
Didier Drogba – Another Chelsea FC entry on the list. Didier Drogba scored 29 goals and assisted 10 others for the Blues in the 2009/2010 season. With two games left in the current season, Cole Palmer may not be able to reach the same heights.
Frank Lampard – Just like Drogba, Frank Lampard entered this list of players with 20+ goals and 10+ assists with his return of 22 goals and 10 assists for Chelsea FC in the 2009/2010 season.
Thierry Henry – The Arsenal legend remains one of the greatest goalscorers to have graced the English Premier League, but he had eyes for assists as well. He achieved double goals and assist figures in 2002/2003 (24 goals, 20 assists) and 2004/2005 (25 goals, 14 assists). He was the first player to achieve this feat.
