Chiefs Schedule Includes Games on Every Day of Week Except Tuesday in 2024 NFL Season
The new 2024 NFL season schedule dropped earlier this week and it has everyone looking ahead to some of the better matchups. It’s been a fun offseason so far, with every team trying to be the one to knock off the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City enters the year as the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, so they will be target No. 1 for each squad this season.
Within the Chiefs’ schedule, they were given an odd outcome. Kansas City will play a game on every day of the week this season, except for Tuesday. They are the first NFL team to do this since 1927, per Grant Gordon of NFL.com.
They have 10 games on Sunday, two on Monday, one on Wednesday, one on Thursday, one on Friday, and one on Saturday. The schedule also includes a game at the end of the year that doesn’t have a set day just yet due to flex scheduling within the NFL.
This is a strange occurrence, but the NFL has been looking to maximize the product by playing games on unusual days in recent years. The Wednesday game comes on Christmas Day, giving the league extra viewership on a weekday that they normally don’t have games played.
This season will be historic for the Chiefs in more ways than one, because they will be aiming to become the first team to ever win three straight Super Bowls. Teams that did go back-to-back never returned to the Super Bowl the following season, so Kansas City will have more history to try to write.
Kansas City opens the new season on September 5 at home against the Baltimore Ravens in a rematch of the AFC Championship game from last season. Many see Baltimore as the favorites to be the team to take down the Chiefs this season.
The Chiefs have established themselves as a dynasty over the last few seasons, winning three Super Bowl titles in a five-year span. They reached the big game in four of the five years, only missing out on five straight when they lost to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship in 2021. With star quarterback Patrick Mahomes directly in his prime, the Chiefs don’t look like they will be going away anytime soon. This team is hungry for more titles and where things stand right now, the NFL goes through Arrowhead Stadium until proven otherwise.
