Champions League Final: Where to Watch Borussia Dortmund vs. Real Madrid
The stage is set at Wembley Stadium in London for the highly anticipated encounter between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid as they face off in the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday.
The road to the final has been marked by intense preparation and tactical recalibrations. Borussia Dortmund secured their place in the final with a solid 2-0 aggregate victory over Paris Saint-Germain, showcasing exceptional defensive performances. Real Madrid, on the other hand, triumphed over Bayern Munich with a dramatic 4-3 aggregate win, thanks to Joselu’s late goals in the second leg.
With anticipation building for this final showdown, history suggests that the game is poised to be a spectacular event at Wembley. This is the fifth European Cup final at the Cathedral of Football and the third since the major 2006 renovation.
An estimated worldwide audience of 400 million eagerly awaits the most anticipated soccer game of the season. That’s twice as many people that watched the Super Bowl in February.
Real Madrid, fresh from securing their 36th LaLiga title, enters the contest as favorites, but with a mix of confidence and caution. Los Blancos are determined to extend their record with a 15th Champions League title. Under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti, Madrid has navigated a challenging path to the final, including a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Manchester City and a narrow win against Bayern Munich.
But don’t count out Borussia Dortmund, the surprise package of this season’s competition. Despite an inconsistent domestic season that saw them finish fifth in the Bundesliga, Dortmund’s European campaign has seen them overcoming formidable opponents like Paris Saint-Germain and Atlético Madrid to reach the final.
“It’s almost surreal. I think, in the grand scheme of things, we deserved to reach the final. I know we won’t be favorites and it will be extremely difficult. But it’s just one match and, over the course of one game, anything is possible,” said Edin Terzić, Dortmund’s coach.
The betting odds favor Real Madrid, with bookmakers offering odds around 1.65 for a Madrid win, compared to 5.50 for a Dortmund victory, making the German side the clear underdogs.
However, Madrid coach Ancelotti downplayed his team’s favoritism and mentioned that, while he doesn’t believe it will be an easy game, they are confident of getting the result.
“The team is focused; we have the necessary confidence to show the best of ourselves,” Ancelotti said. Everything’s gone well so far, and we have the right approach. Quality is the number one thing, and my players are fantastic,” he added.
Real Madrid’s most recent Champions League final was in 2022, where they secured a 1-0 victory against Liverpool, thanks to a goal from Vinícius Júnior. This triumph further solidified their dominance in European football.
Borussia Dortmund’s last appearance in a Champions League final was in 2013, where they faced Bayern Munich. Despite a valiant effort, Dortmund lost 2-1 to their German rivals, with Arjen Robben scoring the decisive goal in the closing minutes.
