Cat Locked in Garage Cleverly Uses Security Camera To Alert Owner
A cat on the verge of tears has melted viewers’ hearts after accidentally being locked out.
In a video shared by TikTok user @francsworld, a cat is seen pressing her tiny nose against the security camera. She needed to alert her owner that she was locked in the garage. The video showed her eyes bulging out of her face in complete disbelief.
The owner, who was horrified, got a notification on her phone at 2 a.m.
“My poor baby,” the text on the video reads.
While it might be hard to imagine locking a cat inside, the truth is that accidents happen. Cats are sneaky creatures and often get themselves in hard-to-reach hiding spots. They are known for stealthily going from place to place without their owners ever realizing.
This owner has four felines running around the house that she needs to keep track of. With all four roaming about on their own time and schedule, it’s not always obvious when one cat is not nearby.
But after the bright and early wake-up call she received, there’s no way she’ll be making that mistake again.
Newsweek reached out via TikTok to @francsworld for additional information.
Since being shared to TikTok on February 29, the video has received over 8.7 million views, 2.1 million likes, and 7,033 comments.
Some viewers couldn’t believe how visible it was that the cat was swelling up with sadness: “She’s holding her tears. I feel so bad,” one user wrote.
While it looks like she has tears in her eyes, cats do not cry tears because of emotional reasons like humans, according to Pet Keen. Instead, cats express their emotional needs and feelings through meows, purring, hissing, growling, or physical cues like flattened ears, dilated pupils, and raised fur.
A cat’s tear production is still important as it helps lubricate the eyes, protecting them from irritants like dust or debris.
Maybe this cat’s tears weren’t from sadness, but the rest of her body language showed how upset she was about being locked out. Thankfully, the owner posted a follow-up video saying all was fine and she’s back to being the “most spoiled of the bunch.”
Other viewers comforted the owner saying they had been in similar situations.
“Reminds me that every time I open the pantry I need to check if my cat is inside before I close it. I’ve locked her in there MANY times on accident,” commented a user.
