Brittany and Patrick Mahomes Recall Scary ER Visit With Son Bronze
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Brittany Mahomes recalled a heart-stopping moment when her 23-month-old, Bronze, experienced a severe allergic reaction that landed him in the emergency room.
In an Instagram video posted by Patrick Mahomes’ foundation, 15 and the Mahomies, on Tuesday, October 29, Brittany and her husband shared their terrifying experience a year prior while promoting a campaign with Food Allergy Research and Education (also known as FARE).
The couple, both 29, recalled the panic that ensued last August during the early introduction of nuts to their son, a moment that was especially terrifying given their 3-year-old daughter Sterling’s known allergies to peanuts, milk, and eggs. The Sports Illustrated Swim model described the day Bronze tried nuts for the first time, explaining how she used a powdered nut additive in his bottle.
“He became very irritable, very fussy,” she recounted. After noticing hives and welts spreading across his body, the family rushed to the emergency room. “Just seeing his entire body covered in welts and hives and him being so uncomfortable was probably one of the scariest moments of my life,” she said, remembering the emotional toll the incident took on her.
Patrick echoed his wife, recalling his own fear during the ordeal and how it marked a turning point in their approach to food allergies. “I remember how scared I was and how serious it felt and luckily for us the doctors were able to help and that’s when, to me, it became a serious thing that I needed to really pay attention to.” Luckily, the Mahomes’ arrived at the hospital in time, with Brittany’s prior experience with their daughter’s allergies aiding them as well.
Fans were elated to hear the family is involved in such a good cause. “I wanna cry- this is so great. Thank you!!!! Let’s get this everywhere ♥️,” said one user, while another agreed, saying, “Why am I crying so hard i absolutely love their family man.”
Others shared their own allergy stories, thanking the couple for bringing awareness about a serious, yet often overlooked issue. One user commented, “Thank you so much. As a parent of a severe food allergy child (all nuts and a bunch of seeds), to have the two of you fighting for the food allergy community will go so far.” The couple aims to use their platform to advocate for food allergies, working with FARE to improve awareness and safety in restaurants throughout the Kansas City area with 15 and the Mahomies.
In addition to their philanthropic efforts, the Mahomes family will soon have their hands full with a new addition, as Brittany announced she is pregnant with her third child with Patrick back in June.
