Bridesmaid Can’t Believe What She Finds in Thrift Store for Just $9.99
A woman’s impressive thrift store find has delighted viewers online.
Julia Reeves, known online as @julializreeves, shared her joy on TikTok on July 6 after stumbling upon her dream black bridesmaid dress for just $9.99. The video captured Reeves’ elation as she found the “perfect” dress, which usually comes at a higher price, and it has resonated with viewers, amassing thousands of likes and comments.
“To celebrate my golden birthday coming up, where I’m turning 30 on the 30th, I thought it’d be fun to challenge myself to find 30 ‘gold star’ thrift finds by my 30th birthday and share my finds to TikTok,” Reeves, who is based in New York, told Newsweek. “I’m also going to be a bridesmaid in one of my best friends’ weddings coming up this year.
“I was committed to thrifting the bridesmaid dress, and I came across this beautiful vintage Kay Unger black, tiered asymmetrical gown. I was so giddy that it was difficult not to get too excited right there in the store, but it was definitely getting a gold star from me.”
The dress cost Reeves $9.99, while similar styles and other gowns by the brand can retail online for hundreds of dollars.
“I found such a unique and gorgeous option that exceeded my expectations in so many ways,” she said. “Now, the money I didn’t spend on an expensive dress gets to be spent on my friend and her soon-to-be husband!”
Viewers were able to see Reeves looking into the camera with a beaming smile before cutting to the sleek, long and slinky black dress she had discovered, featuring a ruched design.
Overlaid text on the video reads: “POV: [Point of view] You’re committed to thrifting your black bridesmaid dress and find this.”
Reeves has always been passionate about discovering high-quality fashion pieces at thrift stores, having thrifted about 90 percent of her closet in the last 12 years that she has been living in New York.
“Being on a tight budget, learning about the downsides of fast fashion, and wanting to discover my personal style, I realized there was a solution that just made sense,” she said. “That being, curating a thrifted wardrobe of high-quality fashion and home pieces that I love and that will last for a fraction of the cost of retail.
“I had always loved thrift stores, yard sales and interior design, and I knew I really wanted to develop my eye for good pieces.”
The 29-year-old goes thrifting “all the time,” and tends to find something that she likes at a reasonable price.
“I’ve grown to love everything about thrifting and it has become part of my lifestyle,” she said. “It allows me to enjoy the little luxuries of life, express myself creatively, and thrifting has become my ‘me time’ in many ways.”
Reeves’ video has struck a chord with many viewers who appreciate the thrill of thrift shopping and the potential for incredible finds. More than 100,000 people have liked the post while 110-plus have left comments.
“Oh, I cannot WAIT for this try on,” one user, @rrachelp, said.
Another, @wendybogarde, added: “Perfect! Can’t wait to see it on you!”
