Boss Joins Work Video Call—Not Prepared for What He Sees Staff Member Doing

An impromptu karaoke performance during a work meeting has left the internet in stitches after social media manager McKenzie Price, from Oslo, Norway, was caught mid-song by her boss.

The 30-year-old was belting out Celine Dion’s iconic “My Heart Will Go On” when her boss dialed into the call, leaving everyone laughing.

Price had just received a karaoke microphone as a birthday gift and was showing it off to her colleagues during what was meant to be a lighthearted team meeting.

“We’re all very close, so this isn’t an odd thing for me to do,” Price told Newsweek. “I had just started singing when my boss joined. His timing was impeccable.”

Rather than making the situation awkward, Price’s boss embraced the fun moment, playfully calling her a “pop star.” She added, “He’s a supportive guy, so I think he found it just as funny as we did. The look on his face when he joined the call was priceless.”

A video of the moment on TikTok has been viewed 1.1 million times and prompted plenty of reaction from people who thought it was hilarious.

The lighthearted exchange highlights a strong bond between Price and her team, something that many remote workers struggle to maintain. A 2021 survey of 3,000 remote workers by HowNow revealed that over two-thirds of remote employees (67 percent) felt disconnected from their colleagues, while 42 percent said they felt lonely at work.

However, not everyone has found remote work to be a barrier. A survey by YouGov commissioned by Miro in 2021 found that 32 percent of workers reported an improvement in their relationship with their manager since working from home, while 21 percent said their relationships with peers across teams had strengthened.

More and more companies are shifting back to office-only working. A survey of 700 companies by international recruitment consultancy Robert Walters found that two-thirds of professional companies in America will stop offering fully remote work in job ads.
