The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 was held in India, and the hosts ended up winning it by 2-1 margin. It was the fourth consecutive series win for India with the similar margin. This was the last time when the BGT will have four Tests. Team India won the first Test in Nagpur by an innings and 132 runs.
Rohit Sharma-led side won the second Test by 6 wickets in New Delhi. But the tourists came back strongly in the third Test under the leadership of stand-in captain Steve Smith, after regular skipper Pat Cummins went home due to personal reasons, and thrashed India by 9 wickets in Indore.

Australian opener Usman Khawaja was the top run-scorer in the series with 333 runs under his name, including a ton. While premier India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the adjudged the player of the series for picking up the most wickets (25) in the four Tests.
