Beyoncé Makes Grammy History as Most Nominated Artist
Beyoncé dominates the 2025 Grammy nominations with a record 11 nods, elevating her career total to 99 and making her the most-nominated artist in Grammy history.
Her latest album, Cowboy Carter, and hit single “Texas Hold ‘Em“ secured nominations across multiple categories, including album, record and song of the year, alongside country and Americana categories for the first time in her career.
If she wins album of the year, Beyoncé would become the first Black woman in the 21st century to claim the top Grammy prize, a title last held by Lauryn Hill in 1999 for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
Post Malone and Kendrick Lamar Among Top Nominees
Following Beyoncé in Grammy nods is Post Malone, who received seven nominations, a personal best driven by his debut country album, F-1 Trillion. The album earned a nod for best country album, while his collaboration with Morgan Wallen, “I Had Some Help,” received nominations for best country song and country duo/group performance, marking Wallen’s first Grammy recognition.
Kendrick Lamar is also a top contender with seven nominations. His pointed diss track, “Not Like Us,” born from his public feud with Drake, is up for record and song of the year, as well as best rap performance, rap song and music video.
Swift, Eilish and Rising Stars Compete for Album of the Year
Competing with Beyoncé for album of the year are Taylor Swif—with her record-breaking seventh album of the year nomination for The Tortured Poets Department—and André 3000’s with his alt-jazz project New Blue Sun.
Rising pop stars Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan, first-time nominees in this category, join the list with Short n’ Sweet and The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, respectively. Billie Eilish, Charli XCX and Jacob Collier complete the nominations, creating an eclectic mix of seasoned stars and emerging talents.
Eilish’s nomination marks a rare achievement: Each of her first three albums has been nominated for album of the year. Swift, meanwhile, already holds the record for most album of the year wins.
Expanding Representation
Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. noted the Grammy’s efforts to balance gender, racial and genre diversity among nominees, crediting changes in the voting body for broader representation.
“We’ve been very intentional in how we looked at and tried to rebalance our membership,” Mason said to The Associated Press.
However, despite growth, Latin music remains underrepresented in major categories, even as the genre’s popularity in the U.S. soars. K-pop, another global phenomenon, is similarly absent from the nominations.
The 2025 Grammy Awards will be broadcast live on February 2, 2025, on CBS and Paramount+.
