BCCI Blunder! Countless fans apply to become India head coach as board keep application form open to all

Many fans have applied for the coveted post of head coach of Team India as a result of the BCCI’s open recruitment process

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sent cricket fans into a frenzy with a supposed ‘blunder’ in their search for a new men’s Team India head coach. In their media advisory announcing the application process, the BCCI apparently used a public Google Doc for applications, making the coveted position seemingly open to anyone with an internet connection.

BCCI’s open invitation for India head coach position

With current coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure ending after the T20 World Cup 2024, the BCCI is seeking his replacement. As per the official criteria, applicants should have played over 30 Test matches or 50 ODIs for India. However, the supposed ease of applying through a public Google Doc has seen enthusiastic fans throw their hats into the ring, much to the amusement of the cricketing world.

The incident has exposed a potential oversight by the BCCI. Many believe a more controlled application process, perhaps through an internal nominations, would have been a more prudent approach. While this applications process add a touch of humor, the role demands a highly qualified and experienced cricketers to guide the Indian team to future glory.
