Anthony Alfredo’s Retaliation at Phoenix Raceway Leads to Massive NASCAR Fine
The 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway saw Anthony Alfredo face disciplinary actions following an aggressive move during the race.
The incident unraveled on Lap 62. This slip in sportsmanship marred Alfredo’s otherwise interesting season.
During the race, Alfredo, piloting the No. 5 Dead On Tools/Our Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro, found himself tangled in a competitive skirmish while vying for the 20th position against Stefan Parsons’ No. 45 Chevrolet Camaro. Tensions escalated when Parsons pushed Alfredo into the outside wall, triggering a retaliatory response.
Alfredo veered left, pushing Parsons’ vehicle into a hard collision with the wall. This move contravened the Member Code of Conduct, specifically Section 4.4.B of the NASCAR Rule Book. In the ensuing chaos, Greg Van Alst was indirectly involved. His attempts to avoid the collision caused him to spin out, ultimately leading to his withdrawal from the race due to a suspension issue.
As a result of this infraction, NASCAR officials imposed a substantial penalty on Alfredo, a $25,000 fine and a deduction of 25 driver points.
Despite these penalties, which could have been detrimental to a driver’s standing, Alfredo managed to finish the season in 15th place in the overall standings. His performance throughout the year, with two top-five finishes and a career-best seven top-10 results, reflects a solid season, albeit overshadowed by this incident. Alfredo averaged a finishing position of 18.5.
The $25,000 fine, while appearing nominal for some, can bear considerable weight for teams like Our Motorsports.
Anthony Alfredo’s plans for the 2025 NASCAR season are yet to be determined. The new season is set to commence on February 15, 2025, at Daytona International Speedway.
