Anne Hathaway On ‘Favorite’ Thing Donatella Versace Said—’So Much Power’
Anne Hathaway heaped praise on fashion designer Donatella Versace, describing her as having “so much power.”
The Oscar winner also spoke about the favorite thing she ever heard Versace say in a video for Vogue magazine’s YouTube channel.
Hathaway appeared in the video, called “My Life in Looks,” where she spoke about some of her most iconic outfits—whether they be ones her characters have worn in moves or she has donned on the red carpet.
One of the photos included an image of her at the 2023 Met Gala in New York City where she wore a white Versace dress—and as she began talking about the couture gown, ventured into an anecdote about the fashion designer.
“This was one of my favorite dresses of all time. I know you’re not supposed to have favorites, it’s like children. But this one was really, really special,” Hathaway began. “It was a magnificent garment I wish you could see the insides of it. The way I was constructed was just incredible.”
The next photo in the video was of Hathaway standing next to Versace and the Les Miserables actor began praising her.
“Literally everything that comes out of Donatello’s mouth deserves to be remembered forever,” Hathaway began.
“One of my favorite things that she ever said was, we were taking a photo, I think it was made for one of our ad campaigns together and someone said they needed to get an approval for something, and she looked at them and deadpanned, ‘I approve, what more do you need,'” Hathaway recalled referring to Versace’s role as CEO and creative director of the Italian fashion label.
“She has so much power. Not just because of the Versace name but who she is,” Hathaway continued. “She herself as an individual, has so much power, and the way she uses it, she brings people close together, she treats people like family, [and] her level of thoughtfulness.
“She’s just, she’s a wonderful person. I feel really lucky that we that we’re in each other’s lives.”
Hathaway had her breakout role in 2001’s The Princess Diaries, and went on to star in Ocean’s 8, Brokeback Mountain, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Devil Wears Prada.
She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2012 for her role in Les Miserables and was also nominated for Best Actress in 2008 for the movie Rachel Getting Drunk.
Versace took over the role of creative director at the fashion house in 1997 after her brother Gianni Versace, who launched the label, was murdered.
