Former Shrewsbury Town striker Andy Mangan is a candidate to take over as Salop head coach, reports BBC Radio Shropshire.
The 38-year-old had two spells at the Meadow between 2014 and 2016 and is now assistant at Stockport County.
He took charge of seven games as Bristol Rovers caretaker manager last season, winning four, drawing two and losing only once.
