All Items Removed This Month

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) have issued at least 13 recalls in total so far this month.

They include dog food, chia seeds, yoghurt-covered pretzels, mixed nuts and a certain type of chocolate bar.

“It is important that consumers be aware of recalls because recalled foods may cause injury or illness, especially for people who are pregnant or have weakened immune systems because of chronic illness or medical treatment,” the FDA has said about recalls in general.

Here is a breakdown of each product that has been pulled off of shelves as of May 18, starting from the most recent recall.

• Palmer Candy Company: Multiple products, including Caramel Swirl Pretzels and Cookies & Cream Yummy Chow, because of a potential salmonella contamination.
• Mars Petcare US: Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition Grilled Steak & Vegetable Flavor Dry Dog Food (in the 44-pound bag size only), due to the potential presence of loose metal pieces in the bag.
• Sun Noodle: S&S Cup Samin manufactured because they may contain undeclared egg white powder.
• United Supermarkets: Chocolate Caramel Corn and Candy Tray due to a possible salmonella contamination.
• Reser’s Fine Foods: Aldi Deli Macaroni Salad due to an incorrect label.
• Natural Sourcing International: Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds due to a possible salmonella contamination.
• Megadyne Medical Products Inc.: Megadyne Mega Soft Pediatric Patient Return Electrodes because the company “received reports of patient burn injuries.”
• Western Mixers Produce and Nuts: Yogurt Covered Pretzels due to possible salmonella contamination.

• Healthwest Minerals, Inc. Mt. Capra Products: Goat Milk Formula Recipe Kit as the FDA “is concerned that the formula does not meet all FDA requirements for infant formula.”
• FoodScience, LLC: Amyloid Complete as it may contain undeclared shellfish, which can be dangerous to people who are allergic to it.
• Hy-Vee Inc: Hy-Vee Cream Cheese Spread “out of an abundance of caution due to the potential for contamination with salmonella”.
• Hormel Foods Sales, LLC: Planters because they may have the potential to be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes—”an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems”.
• Chuao Chocolatier: Potato Chip mini bar because some packages may contain undeclared hazelnut which can be dangerous for people who have nut allergies.

• Lean Apco Brand Meats All Natural Premium Chorizo: Health alert issued due to concerns that raw pork chorizo products may be contaminated with foreign materials, particularly hard plastic and metal.
• Cargill Meat Solutions: Approximately 16,243 pounds of raw ground beef products recalled over concerns of E. Coli contamination. The items were produced on April 26-27, 2024.
