Dudley chief inspector Balraj Sohal sacked for drunken behaviour on flight
A police chief inspector has been sacked after after a misconduct hearing found he he was guilty of “drunken conduct” on a plane.
The West Midlands Police panel said Balraj Sohal’s behaviour in June 2022 “was deemed so unacceptable he was ejected from a flight”.
Deputy Chief Constable Scott Green said: “His actions were totally inappropriate and he has brought discredit on the police service.”
Mr Sohal joined the police in 2006 and was a member of the National Sikh Police Association.
He had encouraged other people from Asian backgrounds to join the police and told the Joining the Police website that his role gave him “a sense of pride and accomplishment”.
Known as “Billy”, he had also concentrated on reducing knife crime and serious violence involving young people and was based in the Dudley division.
West Midlands Police announced on Wednesday that he had been dismissed after a hearing which began on 7 June.
