Babar Azam named captain, Hasan Ali dropped and Haris Rauf returns as Pakistan announces squad for T20 World Cup
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled their 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup, set to begin on June 1 in the USA and the Caribbean. Pakistan was the final team to announce their squad, doing so just before the ICC’s May 25 deadline for teams to finalise their squad for the World Cup.
Babar Azam is set to lead the 15-member Pakistan squad for the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup 2024, which will be held in the United States and the Caribbean from June 1 to 29. The squad also marks the return of Haris Rauf, who has recovered from an injury and was last seen playing for his national side in January.
“This is an extremely talented and balanced side that has a mixture of youth and experience,” the Pakistan Cricket Board said in a statement in their official website. “These players have been playing together for some time and look well-prepared and settled for next month’s event.”
Meanwhile, Hasan Ali missed out on the squad as he was released by the management to resume his stint with Warwickshire in county cricket. Additionally, the squad will see youngsters like Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub and Usman Khan who have made names in the Pakistan Super League earlier this year.
Pakistan squad: Babar Azam (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Khan
