RCB vs DC | Twitter celebrates Patidar-Green alliance as RCB dominates Delhi boosting their playoff prospects
Royal Challengers Bengaluru rose from their ashes as they won their fifth game on the trot, beating Delhi Capitals by 47 runs in Bengaluru. The home side showed some great batting with Rajat Patidar’s splendid half-century coupled with some great bowling performances leading to Delhi’s loss.
Opting to bowl first proved advantageous for the Delhi Capitals, as they swiftly removed RCB’s formidable opening duo of Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli within the powerplay. Taking advantage of Delhi’s faltering fielding, Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar capitalized, forging a sturdy partnership of 88 runs elevating the score to 121/2 in 12 overs, with Patidar reaching a fifty off 29 balls. Meanwhile, Axar Patel overcame his earlier fielding woes, and redeemed himself with two crucial catches, dismissing the pair during the middle overs. Nonetheless, the home team’s momentum remained intact as Mahipal Lomror and Cameron Green orchestrated a rapid 37-run alliance off 18 deliveries, propelling RCB’s score to 174/5 in 17.3 overs before Lomror’s departure. With Delhi’s tightened fielding and bowling, the home team continued to lose wickets, concluding their innings at 187/9 in 20 overs.
Coming back from an injury, Delhi opener David Warner faced a rough start as he departed in the very first over. The home team faced further setbacks as key batters Abishek Porel, Jake Fraser-McGurk, and Kumar Kushagra fell within the powerplay, leaving the score at 54/4 after six overs. However, Axar Patel and Shai Hope steadied the ship with a 56-run partnership, guiding their team to 81/4 in nine overs, with Axar reaching a brisk fifty off just 30 balls. Unfortunately, the Delhi Capitals witnessed a collapse, losing quick wickets including Tristan Stubbs and Hope, leaving them struggling at 100/6 by the 12th over. Despite a brief resistance, Delhi’s hopes dwindled as they lost three more wickets in the death overs, managing only 135/9 by the 18th over. Ultimately, they were all out for 140 in 19.1 overs, allowing Royal Challengers Bengaluru to rise to fifth position on the points table, with a shot at reaching the playoffs.
