Winning the toss and electing to bat first looked like an impressive decision from Punjab Kings stand-in captain Sam Curran when Prabhsimran Singh offered an explosive 56-run powerplay start against the Gujarat Titans. However, the introduction of spinners turned the tide in favour of the visitors as Sai Kishore, Rashid Khan, and Noor Ahmad bowled well to wreak havoc on the opposition. As the match went to the final over of the first innings, a struggling Harpreet Bhatia was shadowed by impressive Wriddhiman Saha.
On the last ball of the first innings, Mohit Sharma bowled a slower one at the pads that Harpreet Singh Bhatia managed to flick towards deep backward square leg. The throw from the deep was wayward from B Sai Sudharsan and Saha grabbed the ball and made a direct hit from a couple of feet away while Bhatia was on the verge of completing a double. The TV umpire was referred to by the onfield umpires and it was seen that Bhatia was just short by a bare margin from making home. Just before the incident, Bhatia denied strike rotation to Kagiso Rabada, who can hit the long ball, on two occasions. And right after, when he got out to a smart work from Saha, the Twitterverse could not hold but break into social media.
