Sumit Nagal pockets Rs 5.75 lakh after comfortable win over Flavio Cobolli in Monte Carlo R1 Qualifiers
This is the second clay tournament Nagal is playing this season, and with the Paris 2024 Olympics being played on the same surface, every win is of great importance to the Indian tennis ace.
Sumit Nagal has earned himself a win at the Monte Carlo Masters. The World No. 91 claimed a comfortable two-set win over eighth-seeded Flavio Cobolli and has entered the second round of qualifying for the first time. Nagal has played in Monte Carlo just once (2021) and exited the first round of qualifying.
Playing against the 62-ranked Italian, Nagal broke serve thrice and dominated Cobolli on both serve and return. The highest-ranked men’s Indian single player lost just five games and breezed to the final round of qualifying, despite going against someone who not only ranked 29 spots ahead but also is coming off some impressive performances this year.

Sumit Nagal continues his fine form
After not being sure about his future at the end of 2023 and now reaching a career-high rank of 91, the last three months have been nothing short of miraculous for Nagal. After his famous win over Alexander Bublik at the Australian Open 2024, the tennis ace revealed that at one point he had just Rs 80000 left in his account.
Cut to now, Nagal has pocketed over Rs 5.75 lakh just for his round 1 win in qualifying over Cobolli. Playing on his favorite surface, Nagal is showing his improved brilliance. He suffered a second-round exit at the Marrakech Open but has bounced back empathically.
