Falkirk manager John McGlynn in the mood for dancing after Falkirk wrap up title

John McGlynn dancing is not something you get to see very often – but the veteran manager had every reason to unleash some moves at 7.15pm on Saturday.

But after the Bairns went on to triumph 7-1 at Links Park, McGlynn was prompted to join his players and strut his stuff.

“It’s not necessarily me, to be fair, but I just got carried away a bit I suppose,” McGlynn told BBC Radio Scotland.

“Obviously it was a special occasion and I’d been wound up to do these type of things.

“The players have been magnificent all season and they certainly did it style on Saturday night – the players went out and put on a top show.”

Their convincing victory put Falkirk 19 points clear of Hamilton Academical at the top of the third tier and seal a long-awaited promotion, meaning the team will play Championship football next season for the first time since 2019.

“Five years in League One has been hard for the Falkirk fans,” said McGlynn.

“That was the job we were tasked with, to come in and get them out of that league, so we’re delighted to have done that and it’s amazing for everyone involved.

“We’ll certainly enjoy it and we can add to the Championship. We’ll have a good support away from home.”

‘We’ll go up with continuity’

Several of Falkirk’s top performers will relish the step up.

Callumn Morrison has notched 23 goals this campaign. Ross Maciver has filled his boots, too, while Brad Spencer patrols the midfield and the experienced Coll Donaldson has been a rock at the back.

“We’ll not necessarily have to change our system and we’ll go up with continuity because a number of our players have already re-signed,” added McGlynn, who previously managed Raith Rovers in the second tier.

“I’m very confident in the squad. We don’t leave any stone unturned going into games.

“The recruitment is massive. So that’s the next stage. We’ve obviously been signing up players we’ve already got and we’ll have to bring in two or three bits of quality if we can to make that difference.

“We would hope that we would be challenging at the top end of the table, but having been there, you can be down near the bottom fighting relegation, and the next thing you’re up in the play-offs at the other end of the table.”

Falkirk haven’t played top flight football since 2010, so consecutive promotions might be a distant dream, but if the Bairns did pull it off, there’s absolutely no doubt McGlynn would be dusting off those dancing shoes once again.
