Liverpool 2-0 RB Leipzig Player Ratings: Thiago stars

Liverpool cruised into the quarter-finals of the Champions League as they claimed a 2-0 (4-0 agg) win over RB Leipzig.

Having lost three of their four games since beating the Germans by the same scoreline in the first leg, the Reds came into their ‘home’ leg in Budapest short on confidence.

But they were once again convincing winners on their second trip to Hungarian capital, earning a deserved place in the last eight.

Take a closer look at how the players performed below.

✔️ Thiago Alcantara 7.5

Nobody has missed Fabinho’s presence in midfield quite like Thiago Alcantara if this performance is anything to go by.

With Liverpool’s No.3 back alongside him for the first time since October, the Spaniard was clearly able to concentrate on simply playing his natural game.

That resulted in several typically eye-catching passes – including one that created a big chance that should have been taken – as well as four tackles and eight recoveries.

❌ Alexander Sorloth: 5.8

Introduced in place of Kevin Kampl at half-time as Leipzig went for broke, the former Crystal Palace striker could not make an impact.

He took just three touches in the box and managed only one shot in his 45 minutes as Julian Nagelsmann’s side failed to put any pressure on Liverpool.

He should perhaps have taken one of the earlier chances that came his way, but Mohamed Salah was always going to make his mark on this game.

The Egyptian comfortably took more touches in the box than any player on the pitch (10), including several as he calmly controlled the ball before dispatching the opener.

He also attempted 10 duels across the 90 minutes, refusing to give Leipzig’s backline a moment’s peace.
