Mbappe didn’t deserve to be on the losing side as Dijon fought back from a goal down to defeat PSG 2-1 on Friday. It was the Frenchman who initially gave the champions the lead away from home, darting through the middle after an Angel Di Maria pass to dink a right-footed finshing over the onrushing goalkeeper. He made 28 passes into the final third, won the majority of his duels, and had 78 touches throughout the game. He also completed more dribbles (7), than any other player in Ligue 1 this weekend.
After three straight losses, Nice finally got back to winning ways on Sunday with a 2-0 victory versus Stade Reims. Former Bayern defender Dante was key to clinching the three points, as he was solid at the back to ensure the hosts kept a clean sheet. He won 6/8 duels, 100% of his aerial duels, and 100% of his attempted tackles, while making nine ball recoveries, three interceptions, and four clearances. He had more touches than anyone else in this round of fixtures, too, and completed 95 out of 102 passes.
Depay continues to be a bright spark in an otherwise disappointing season so far for Lyon. There have been signs of improvement recently, though, as they made it two league wins on the bounce by beating Toulouse 3-2 away. He scored two on the night, with the first being slotted home after a quite brilliant assist from Jeff Reine-Adelaide. The Dutchman proved to be the match winner with his second goal, as with 95 minutes on the clock he took on the Toulouse defence with an incisive dribble before flashing a left-footed strike across the keeper into the bottom corner.
After Mbappe gave PSG a relatively early lead against Dijon, the pressure was on for the home side, but they fought back to make it 1-1 just before the break after Keylor Navas spilled a cross which landed to the feet of Chouiar, who slammed home the loose ball from seven yards. He made 18 passes into the final third but also worked tirelessly defensively, as he made 13 ball recoveries from his position on the left wing.
While Dante was solid at the back, Cyprien was influential further forward with his running from midfield into the final third. It was he who opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark, holding his run at the edge of the box to cut a spinning half-volley across goal into the bottom left corner. His retention of the ball was key for Nice as they stopped Reims getting back into things, as he completed 74 out of 79 passes.
HONOURABLE MENTIONS
After two straight losses, Marseille got a much-needed win on Saturday, defeating Lille 2-1. Their best player on the night was Boubacar Kamara(8.1), who assisted the opening goal after displaying impressive composure with his back to goal to set-up Morgan Sanson. Defensively he was good, too, winning 11/13 duels, 4/5 tackles, and 3/4 aerial duels.
ROUND TO FORGET
Loic Remy (4.8) was on the pitch for around 65 minutes in Lille’s loss against Marseille, and in that time he managed zero shots and zero dribbles. He also attempted just eight passes before he was hooked.
