Forget About Record, Yekini Remains Nigeria’s Best Striker
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has declared that the late Rashidi Yekini remains Nigeria’s best striker regardless of whether he breaks or surpasses his goal-scoring record.
Having scored 23 goals, the Galatasaray star is now 14 goals shy of the Super Eagles’ all-time goals record of the legendary Yekini, who netted 37.
However, reacting via his X handle, the Nigerian international stated that breaking or surpassing Yekini’s record won’t change the fact that the late striker is the greatest Nigeria has ever produced.

“No, no. I really don’t care about this. I just want to do my job and try to win games, score goals, provide a lot of assits for my team,” he said in a video uploaded to X.
“Then if I equal it, I equal it, if I surpass it, I surpass it, but that doesn’t take away Rashidi Yekini is the greatest striker in the Super Eagles have ever had.
“This record stood for a very, very long time and it still stands, so I think we should give him his flowers and also celebrate him.”
