Super Eagles Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali Mourns Loss of Father
Super Eagles of Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is in mourning following the tragic passing of his father. The news broke on Friday morning, just a day after Nwabali had played a key role in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Benin Republic during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in Abidjan.
Nwabali, who was on goal for the Super Eagles during the match, shared the sad news on social media, expressing his deep sorrow. “I can’t help, I wish you knew what you have done. Goodbye Dad. RIP Dad,” he wrote, paying tribute to his father.
The loss comes just months after Nwabali’s standout performance in the 2023 AFCON, where he kept four clean sheets in seven matches, solidifying his place as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper. His composure and calm presence in high-pressure situations during the tournament earned him widespread praise.
In a message of support, Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface sent his condolences, urging Nwabali to “Stay strong bro,” while other teammates, including William Troost-Ekong, rallied around the grieving goalkeeper.
This tragic news has deeply affected the Super Eagles squad, but the team’s unity and support for Nwabali during this difficult time highlight the close bond within the squad.
