Super Eagles Were Not Combative Against Ben
Former Nigerian international Nduka Ugbade believes the Super Eagles were not too combative enough in the team’s 1-1 draw against Benin in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Benin took the lead in the 16th minute through Mohammed Tijani’s glancing header before Victor Osimhen leveled parity late in the second half with another header.
Reacting after the game, Ugbade, who was a guest at AfroSports AFCON qualifier coverage on NTA, stated that he expected much from the Super Eagles.

“Eagles were not too combative despite controlling possession. I think the players were a bit heavy, and I expected much from them against Benin. The performance was a bit shaky regardless of the factors we considered.
He also noted that Osimhen has the quality to reach late Rashidi Yekini’s goal-scoring feat if he maintains his form.
“He might be able to reach Yekini’s feat, but they are two different players. Mind you, Yekini is a player who is always ready to take the risk. From anywhere. Yekini can shoot and still score. But then, Osimhen is a bit different, even though he’s always hungry and determined to score goals.”
