Newcastle paedophile voyeur jailed for secret toilet films
A paedophile who secretly filmed more than 30 young men and boys using public toilets has been jailed for two and a half years.
Trevor English, 44, filmed 35 males, including a boy possibly as young as 12, using urinals next to him at sites including the Metrocentre in Gateshead and Newcastle’s Centre for Life, Newcastle Crown Court heard.
He also had a stash of hundreds of indecent images of children, including victims as young as five being sexually abused, the court heard.
English, from Newcastle, admitted 18 offences including 13 counts of voyeurism, taking an indecent video of a child, outraging public decency and making indecent images of children.
His collection of voyeur videos dated back to 2012 and was discovered in 2020 after police arrested him in connection with other offences for which he was not ultimately prosecuted, the court heard.
The films showed him using urinals and covertly using his mobile phone to record the person next to him, with English in some cases being visibly aroused and performing a sex act, the court heard.
Judge Sarah Mallett said they were filmed at a number of public locations including supermarkets.
A haul of more than 1,700 indecent images of children, including almost 300 in the most serious category, were also discovered on hard drives, USB sticks and a laptop, the court heard.
Judge Mallett said there was “discernible pain and suffering” in the images with multiple victims featured, some as young as five.
English made full admissions to police and said he would record young men and boys in public toilets for his own sexual gratification, the court heard.
Judge Mallett said the case was delayed in part by English’s refusal to tell police the codes for unlocking his devices.
English must sign the sex offenders register for life and a sexual harm prevention order limiting his future use of internet-enabled devices was made to last indefinitely.
