Mohammad Nabi set to retire after Champions Trophy 2025
Nabi, who struck a whirlwind 79-ball 84 to rescue the Atalans from adversity in the first ODI, will bid adieu to the extended white ball format after the Champions Trophy. He expressed his desire to have a taste at the quadruple event which is set to take place after eight years. This will be the first time that Afghanistan will be a part of the Champions Trophy, and Nabi, being a senior member wished to play a part in the Atalans camp.
“In my mind, from the last World Cup, I was retired but then we qualified for the Champions Trophy and I felt if I could play that, it would be great,” Nabi told the host broadcaster after the third ODI….We will see, but no, I will not play for long. God willing, after the Champions Trophy, we will say goodbye to the ODIs,” Nabi said.
The 39-year-old has been an integral part of the Afghanistan team, having captained them in the 2015 World Cup and being a part of the next couple of editions. Having accumulated 3600 runs in 167 innings at an average of 27.48, the 39-year-old is their second-highest run-getter in the particular format after Rahmat Shah. Nabi is also the most capped player for the Afghanistan cricket team in his illustrious 15-year career.
Following the Champions Trophy, Nabi would only be considered as an active International player in the T20 format.
