RFK Racing Just Pulled the Funniest Joke on NASCAR’s Pace Car Fail

RFK Racing has taken a lighthearted jab at NASCAR following an incident involving the pace car during the NASCAR Cup Series Championship race at Phoenix Raceway. RFK Racing posted a meme on social media, with the video hilariously combining a scene from Nickelodeon’s “Drake & Josh” with footage of the pace car crashing.

The surprising moment unfolded as the pace car pulled onto pit road too late, hitting the safety barrels just before Stage 2 of the race. This prompted a red flag, pausing the race temporarily. RFK Racing capitalized on the moment by using a clip from Drake and Josh to lighten the mood.

Despite not being in contention for the championship title in this race with the team currently 13th in the owner standings, RFK Racing have had a few interesting moments. The team has seen mixed results, with driver Brad Keselowski having secured a playoff berth by winning the Darlington race in May 2024, only to be eliminated in the Round of 16. Meanwhile, Chris Buescher missed the playoffs but celebrated a successful outing at Watkins Glen in September with a victory.

But RFK Racing isn’t standing still as they are considering expanding to three cars for the 2025 season. Steve Newmark, President of RFK Racing, shared insights on this possibility during his appearance on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

“Think we’ve been open over the last couple years. And it’s a question that we’ve obviously gotten a lot particularly based on our history. And the size that we used to be,” he elaborated.

“The last few years we’ve actually had some opportunities to expand. And we’ve declined at that time because we wanted to be cautious because I think that we’ve seen some lessons out there that if we expand too quickly, sometimes the growing pains can set you backwards,” he said.

The team’s rich history dates back to their years as Roush Fenway Racing, a name that brandished its own successes prior to the rebrand in 2022 under the joint leadership of Jack Roush and Brad Keselowski.

“We felt like we needed to establish our two-car program as elite. And one that we felt could threaten for wins every single time we showed up to the racetrack,” Newmark continued.

Looking towards the future, RFK Racing’s possible expansion to three cars could herald another chapter of increased competitiveness.

“As we go into this year, I think we started to feel that we’re not exactly where we want to be. But we had reached that point where we were running up front consistently. And have the ability to win every weekend.”
