Mikel Obi faults Mikel Arteta over one-way goalscoring pattern
Chelsea legend Mikel Obi has faulted Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta for using the set-piece as the teams only source of scoring goals this season.
Already, Arsenal are renowned as a set-piece team, having scored most of their goals from set-piece, starting from the 2023/2024 season into the 2024/2025 season.
Mikel Arteta tutored Arsenal side scored twenty-two set-piece goals (penalties not included), the most in the Premier League last season, with 16 of those coming from corner-kicks.
The influence of Nicolas Jover, Arsenal’s set-piece coach, has made the team dangerous from corner-kicks and free-kicks.
Chelsea legend Mikel Obi has slammed Arsenal’s tactics of set-piece, claiming they should find other means of scoring.
Speaking on his ObiOne podcast on X, Mikel said, “That’s illegal… Mikel Arteta should find a different way of scoring goals.”
The Gunners have only won two of their last six games in all competitions, which has also seen them drop to fifth place on the Premier League table.
Arsenal’s recent loss came in the hands of Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League, losing 1-0 to the Italian giants.
Mikel Arteta will now look to get his team back on their best mood after the lChampions League loss in midweek as they travel to Chelsea for the London derby.
