Golden State Warriors get statement win over champions Boston Celtics to continue fine start to NBA season
The Golden State Warriors started their season strong, winning 6 out of their first 7 games. On Wednesday night, they faced their biggest challenge yet: the defending NBA champions, the Boston Celtics.
In the first quarter, the Celtics took the lead. But Kyle Anderson, coming off the bench for the Warriors, hit several 3-pointers to help the team regain the lead before halftime.
In the third quarter, Jayson Tatum was unstoppable for the Celtics, scoring 17 points. However, Steph Curry also stepped up, scoring 11 points, including two 3-pointers.
The game stayed close, and the Warriors went into the last quarter with a one-point lead. Veteran center Kevon Looney played a crucial role, scoring six points and grabbing four rebounds in the fourth quarter.
He was very effective, finishing the game with a +10 rating. Buddy Hield scored a big 3-pointer with less than a minute left, giving the Warriors a seven-point lead with just 47 seconds on the clock.
In total, five Warriors players scored in double digits, leading to an impressive 118-112 victory over the Celtics, extending their winning streak to five games. Curry led the team with 27 points, while Hield and Andrew Wiggins added 16 points each.
With a 7-1 record, the Warriors are tied with the Phoenix Suns and Oklahoma City Thunder for the best record in the Western Conference. However, things won’t get easier for them as they head into their next game against the undefeated Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.
