‘The Simpsons’ Prediction Goes ‘Wrong’ Amid Election Results
Long-running cartoon The Simpsons has been said to predict the future but a storyline where Lisa becomes the first female U.S president has failed to materialize.
It has been discussed for many years that the The Simpsons forecast many major real-life events long before they happened, with some saying the show predicted Donald Trump’s first presidency.
But now, many are saying its run has ended after Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris lost her bid for the White House in the 2024 election.
Trump is the presumptive winner of the presidential election and claimed victory in a speech in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Two episodes of The Simpsons show the family’s middle child in the White House, with many pointing out Lisa’s outfit in both episodes resembles what Harris wore to the 2021 presidential inauguration, where she was sworn in as vice president.
The first is a 24-year-old episode called Bart to the Future, which correctly predicted Trump’s presidency, as Bart was given a peek into his adult life. Set in 2030, the vision shows Lisa as the first female president who has inherited “quite a budget crunch from President Trump.”
The next episode that people say may have predicted Harris’ White House hopes was from the 2021 season and the family was once again given a chance to see their future, which included Lisa as president.
But following Harris’ defeat in this year’s election, some on social media are saying The Simpsons failed in their prediction.
Newsweek contacted representatives of The Simpsons at Fox for comment on Wednesday morning.
“This is the first time The Simpsons were wrong,” wrote X user, @kirawontmiss alongside a photo of Harris at the inauguration side-by-side with an image of Lisa as president.
The post has been viewed more than 5.1 million times and people chimed in with their thoughts in the replies.
“Simpsons workin’ hard. But Trump workin harder,” replied user @apollovwrld.
“Can’t believe The Simpsons failed,” added @fwj6y.
But some people pointed out that there was still potential for The Simpsons’ prediction to come true because Harris could once again run for office, and the vision into the future was set in 2030, so the prediction has not had time to become real.
“The episode, titled ‘Bart to the Future’ is set in the year 2030 so the timeline hasn’t happened yet…,” replied @jkashort.
“She still has many more years of running for office. Her time will be in the future,” added user @HNWcrypto.
