New West Coast Bidder Could Join Yankees, Mets In Mix For Juan Soto
Major League Baseball is about to enter one of the more important free agency periods of the last 20 years. Multiple Cy Young winners, including Corbin Burnes, Blake Snell, Max Scherzer, and Justin Verlander, will be available.
But none of those pitchers match the star power of Yankees outfielder Juan Soto. Soto has declined $440 million contract offers in order to reach unrestricted free agency.
Insiders and experts have projected Soto could receive a contract offer north of $600 million with the Mets and the Yankees being the top two teams connected to the superstar.
MLB insider Mark Feinsand recently ranked Soto as his top free agent, connecting him to the Yankees, Mets and, surprisingly, the Giants.
“It’s extremely rare for a player of Soto’s caliber to reach free agency before his age-26 season, making the four-time All-Star a bit of a Hot Stove unicorn. Bryce Harper and Manny Machado were in similar situations after the 2018 season and each cashed in with free-agent deals worth at least $300 million,” Feinsand wrote. “Soto’s price tag should be significantly higher — especially after a strong postseason performance that helped propel the Yankees to the World Series — with most industry insiders projecting a deal of at least 10 years and $500 million.”
Feinsand is the first major insider to connect the Giants to Soto. San Francisco isn’t typically held to the same level of spending as the Yankees and the Mets, but teams will likely spend more aggressively with a player like Soto on the block.
Don’t count out the Giants in the Soto sweepstakes.
