Super Falcons Dominate Algeria with 4-1 Victory
The Super Falcons delivered a commanding performance, defeating Algeria’s Fennecs 4-1 to complete a 6-1 aggregate win in their two-leg friendly encounter.
Folashade Ijamilusi stole the show with a brilliant hat-trick, while Gift Monday added another goal to round off a powerful display. The victory in Onikan reflects Nigeria’s growing squad depth under interim coach Justin Madugu.
After winning the first leg 2-0, the Falcons wasted no time taking control of the second match. Ijamilusi opened the scoring in the 9th minute, capitalizing on a rebound from Gift Monday’s header following Blessing Ilivieda’s corner.
Nigeria doubled the lead just eight minutes later when Ijamilusi pounced on a rebound after a powerful shot from Blessing Osigwe hit the crossbar. Rasheedat Ajibade’s well-timed pass set up the chance perfectly.
Despite Nigeria’s dominance, Algeria pulled one back in the 39th minute. Substitute Wassila Alouache took advantage of a fumble by Nigerian goalkeeper Udoka Unachukwu, momentarily halting the Falcons’ momentum.
Gift Monday restored Nigeria’s two-goal cushion just before halftime, rising above Algeria’s defence to head in from a corner.
Coach Madugu’s second-half substitutions ensured the Falcons maintained their high intensity. In the 86th minute, Ijamilusi completed her hat-trick, tapping in from close range after an Algerian defensive error.
Substitute Monle Omini made a crucial save in added time to deny Algeria a second goal, sealing a comprehensive win for Nigeria.
With back-to-back victories (2-0 and 4-1), the Super Falcons showcased their strength, blending home-based talents with international experience.
