Chelsea face £75,000 fine for record yellow cards in Premier League
Chelsea are set to receive a £75,000 fine after becoming the first team in Premier League history to collect six or more yellow cards in three matches during a single season.
The latest incident occurred during their 2-1 win against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. While goals from Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson secured the victory, the game was marked by several disputes with referee Simon Hooper.
Six Chelsea players were shown yellow cards, including Wesley Fofana, who was booked just 11 minutes into the match, and Romeo Lavia shortly after the second half began. Noni Madueke, Robert Sanchez, and Pedro Neto were also cautioned in the closing minutes. Manager Enzo Maresca received a booking as well, adding to the team’s troubles.
The accumulation of yellow cards means Chelsea will now be fined by the Premier League. Despite their victory, the Blues’ repeated disciplinary issues cast a shadow over their performance this season.
