‘No underrating’ – Enyimba coach reveals how his boys will treat Ikorodu City clash
Enyimba FC head coach, Yemi Olanrewaju, has stressed that his team will not underestimate newly-promoted Ikorodu City FC of Lagos when the two sides meet on Sunday, October 29, 2024. The match, scheduled for 4 PM at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, is an NPFL matchday 9 fixture.
The encounter will be the first-ever meeting between the two clubs, with the “Oga Boys” from Lagos testing their strength against the reigning champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Speaking to Enyimba Media, Olanrewaju explained that despite his Lagosian roots, his loyalty now lies with Enyimba, where he works and earns his living. He made it clear that while Ikorodu City FC might be newcomers, Enyimba will treat the game with the same seriousness as they would against league giants like Remo Stars, Rivers United, and Rangers International.
“Yes, I am a Lagosian, but Abia is where I work and earn my living. So, come Sunday, I will be an Abian,” Olanrewaju said.
The coach also acknowledged that his familiarity with some of Ikorodu City’s players gives him insights into their strengths, but he expects a tough contest.
“We know they will come here to give us a good fight. It would be foolish of us to underrate them.”
Olanrewaju underlined the importance of securing maximum points, especially with the gap at the top of the league table starting to widen.
“We are going to take this game seriously and go for the three points. We must treat Ikorodu City like any of the top teams to ensure we stay competitive at the top of the log.”
Fans can expect a thrilling contest as Enyimba seeks to extend their dominance and climb higher on the NPFL table. Meanwhile, Ikorodu City FC will aim to make a statement with a strong performance against one of the league’s heavyweights.
