Flying Eagles of Nigeria defeat Ivory Coast to qualify for WAFU B U-20 Championship semifinal
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria secured a 2-1 victory over Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday, October 24, 2024, to qualify for the WAFU B U-20 Championship semifinals.
This win came in their final Group B encounter at the tournament held in Lome, Togo, helping the Nigerian team bounce back after a 1-0 loss to Burkina Faso in their opening match.
Nigeria Tops Group B
With both Nigeria and Burkina Faso tied on three points, the Flying Eagles advanced to the semifinals due to their superior goal difference. Burkina Faso, despite having the same points, was eliminated after scoring fewer goals.
Semifinal Clash with Niger Republic
The Flying Eagles will now face Niger Republic in the semifinal on Sunday, October 27, 2024. If they secure victory, it will take them one step closer to defending their championship title.
Cash Reward Pledged for Title Win
Mr. Soname, the chairman of Nigeria Premier Football League side Remo Stars, has promised the team N5 million if they successfully defend their title and bring the trophy back to Nigeria.
This competition in Togo also serves as a qualifier for the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, making every victory even more significant for the Flying Eagles
