AFCON 2025Q: Balogun Calls For CAF Action After Libya Detained Super Eagles At Airport For Several Hours

Leon Balogun wants the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to take action after the Super Eagles were poorly treated by Libyan authorities following their arrival in the country on Sunday for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matchday four encounter.

The plane carrying the team was due to land in Benghazi before it was diverted to another city.

The players and their officials are still stranded at the Al Abaq Airport 13 hours after landing in Libya.

The NFF was ready to book hotel rooms for players and officials of the team close to the said airport, but were told by all hotels approached that they have been instructed not to welcome Nigerians.

The aircraft crew went searching for hotel rooms, but were told the same thing.

Balogun has now called on CAF to take stringent action against the Libyans.

“Hey @CAF_Online – surely you’re going to investigate thoroughly and take action, right? Whoever is responsible for this needs to be held accountable. This is unacceptable!!.”
