Donald Trump Calls Out Polling on Fox News: ‘I Do Better With CNN’

Donald Trump raged on Tuesday about Fox News sharing “fake” polls regarding his chances for reelection in November.

“FoxNews will put up Fake Confidential Democrat Polls that were ‘leaked’ to them, but not Rasmussen or any of the REAL polling groups that have me way ahead,” the former president wrote in a post to Truth Social Tuesday afternoon. “What’s up with FOX? I do better with CNN!!!”

It was not immediately clear to which poll Trump was referring to in his post. However, during Tuesday’s airing of America Reports, Fox News’ hosts Sandra Smith and John Roberts referenced a poll conducted by Bendixen & Amandi and exclusively shared with Politico.

That polling showed that Trump was defeating President Joe Biden 43 percent to 42 percent following the two candidate’s first debate performance. When paired against other prominent Democrats who have been floated as a potential replacement for Biden, however, Trump trailed by a couple percentage points.

Newsweek reached out to Trump’s campaign for clarification on which poll he was referring to on Fox News.

Several Democrats have called on Biden to step down as the party’s nominee after his first debate performance. Recent surveys have shown the president trailing Trump across national polls, putting him in the worst polling position that a Democrat candidate has been in for over two decades.

CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten reported Monday that in an “aggregate” of national polling from early July, Biden is trailing Trump by three points. And according to FiveThirtyEight’s aggregate, as of Tuesday, Trump was beating Biden by 2.1 percent on average across national polling.

Vice President Kamala Harris has been touted as the top choice to replace Biden on the ballot. The polling by Bendixen & Amandi showed Harris beating Trump 42 percent to 41 percent in a hypothetical matchup. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was also put up against Trump and had a slight lead over Harris, beating the former president 43 percent to 41 percent.

As Politico reported, the pollster behind the survey, Fernand Amandi, served as an adviser for former President Barack Obama during both of his presidential campaigns.

Roberts told his co-host during Fox News’ report Tuesday that the results of the Bendixen & Amandi survey raise questions on whether Biden is the best choice for Democrats to run with in November.

“When you take a look at that internal information, is sticking with Biden the right way to go?” Roberts said.

The same poll also surveyed California Governor Gavin Newsom and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s chances against Trump this fall. Both Democrats have been speculated as a potential replacement for Biden, although Bendixen & Amandi’s survey found the governors trailing Trump by several percentage points.
