India last won an ICC trophy in 2013 when MS Dhoni led the team to a win in Champions Trophy. Since then, India have played several knockout games but failed to bag the elite title. India’s first heartbreak came in the 2014 T20 World Cup final where they lost to Sri Lanka.
The team then suffered a defeat to Australia in the 2015 World Cup semi-final. They also lost to West Indies in the T20 World Cup semifinal before losing the Champions trophy final to Pakistan in 2017. India suffered a defeat to New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup semifinal.
Hoping to break the losing streak in ICC knockouts, India played England in the T20 World Cup semifinal but lost to England. The team also lost the WTC final to New Zealand and Australia in 2021 and 2023 respectively.
