Man United Legend Approached To Be Part Of Ten Hag’s Backroom Staff
Manchester United have made an approach to bring in former star Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The coach has been without a job for more than a year after quitting his manager’s job at PSV Eindhoven.
Van Nistelrooy has plenty of experience as a coach and worked his way up at PSV.
Now he has been approached to join Erik ten Hag’s coaching team, according to Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, via the Sun.
However he is also wanted by Burnley to replace Vincent Kompany, who took over at Bayern Munich last month.
Van Nistelrooy was hailed for his playing style during a 12-month spell at PSV, bringing through stars such as Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo and Chelsea’s Noni Madueke.
He won the Dutch Cup last year and finished second in Eredivisie behind Feyenoord.
The former striker also acted as assistant boss to Guus Hiddink at the 2014 World Cup.
Van Nistelrooy made 219 appearances for the Red Devils between 2001 and 2006.
He scored 150 goals for United and won the Premier League and FA Cup.
The Dutchman also played for Real Madridand Hamburg and won 70 caps for the Netherlands.
United could make changes to their coaching staff this summer although Steve McClaren is expected to stay.
However they will have to wait for a big change off the pitch as incoming technical director Dan Ashworth will not be able to start work for another nine months.
But his current club Newcastle refused to let Ashworth go without compensation and put him on gardening leave.
It is believed Toon initially demanded £20million to secure the services of Ashworth, who moved to St James’ Park from Brighton in 2022.
