5-Time Pro-Bowl CB Stephon Gilmore Expected To Meet With Vikings Early Next Week: Report
The Minnesota Vikings are getting ready for the new season like every other team, but they could still use some help in the secondary. Minnesota has been searching for help and they may be getting it in the form of a five-time Pro-Bowler.
According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore is going to meet with the Vikings next week. Gilmore has been on the open market all summer, but this could be his chance to land with a team before the new year starts.
The veteran spent the last season with the Dallas Cowboys, posting 68 total tackles and two interceptions. Gilmore played in all 17 games with Dallas, his only year with the team.
Before coming to the Cowboys, Gilmore spent one season each with the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers. He was once seen as a top option around the NFL at the cornerback position, mainly during his time with the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots.
He left Buffalo in 2017 for the rival Patriots, signing a five-year, $65 million contract. It was a massive deal for Gilmore and he helped New England win the Super Bowl in the 2018 season over the Los Angeles Rams.
Over the course of his career, Gilmore has made two All-Pro First-Teams, in 2018 and 2019. He was the co-leader around the league in interceptions in 2019 and was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in the same year.
The best season of his career came during the 2019 season when he registered 53 total tackles and six interceptions. The former South Carolina product was selected with the No. 10 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft by Buffalo.
Gilmore would be a great addition to the Vikings secondary, especially at this point in the offseason. His veteran experience could help Minnesota as they look to get themselves back to the postseason.
Like all free agent negotiations, the talks will remain fluid until an agreement is made. But Gilmore wants to keep playing and the Vikings look like a great landing spot for his services.
Minnesota lost cornerback Mekhi Blackmon to an ACL tear, so the team’s depth has already been tested this offseason. The Vikings also tragically lost rookie corner Khyree Jackson in a car crash in early July.

If Gilmore signs with the Vikings, one of the more popular defenders in recent NFL times will get another chance to show what he can do.
